Javi Betancourt began his cello studies through his middle school program in the McAllen Independent School District. His professional debut was at age 16 with the local Valley Symphony Orchestra. He had solo appearances with several orchestras in the Rio Grande Valley.
While at the University of North Texas, Javi gained experience playing in a variety of Dallas/Ft. Worth area orchestras, performing for opera, musicals, and chamber music.
He has made guest appearances performing with Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban and The Trans Siberian Orchestra, and has performed in several major venues, including Texas Stadium, the American Airlines Center, Smirnoff Center and in historic cathedrals and churches throughout the Czech Republic.
Javi's vast experience in many different genres allow him to bring a unique charm and sound to his performances.
He is currently a freelance soloist, chamber musician and private clinician.
Mr. Betancourt has managed his own private studio since 2007. He currently provides private cello instruction in the Lewisville Independent School District and serves as Chamber Music Coordinator/Advisor for the Downing Middle School Orchestra in Flower Mound.
Mr. Betancourt is also an active clinician, providing master classes in cello, chamber music and orchestral playing. In 2013, he established the Javier Betancourt Summer Cello Camp to be held each summer in Flower Mound, TX. Mr. Betancourt serves on the string faculty as Cello instructor for The University of Arkansas Summer Music Camp. In August of 2014, he founded Voci di Cello, a touring chamber music ensemble for 7th-12th grade students made up entirely of cellists. This group is intended to help meet the growing demand of students seeking cello instruction.
