Javier Betancourt, a native of McAllen, Texas, began his cello studies at age 10 with his middle school orchestra. He went on to perform professionally with the McAllen-area Valley Symphony Orchestra at age 16, and had solo appearances with several orchestras in south Texas. At the University of North Texas, Javi had the opportunity to study with world-renowned cellist, Eugene Osadchy.
Javi has performed with the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, the Arlington Symphony, the Garland Symphony, the San Angelo Symphony, and has made guest appearances with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, Disturbed, and Celtic Thunder. He currently performs as a freelance cellist in the DFW Metroplex. He also performs with his trio "Apana Trio" with the rare instrumentation of Piano, Trumpet, and Cello. Javi has demonstrated superior versatility throughout his career, recording in Rock, Pop, Country, Jazz, Hip-Hop, and R&B genres. His most recent project, the Six Cello Suites by J.S. Bach, demonstrates his aptitude for classical, as well.
Mr. Betancourt currently resides in Denton and clinics and judges for the Denton, Lewisville, and Frisco ISD. He also has his own private studio and freelances throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, Houston, and Big Spring, TX, where he plays at the First United Methodist Church and teaches lessons at Howard College.
