Playing

Javi Betancourt began his cello studies through his middle school program in the McAllen Independent School District. His professional debut was at age 16 with the local Valley Symphony Orchestra. He had solo appearances with several orchestras in the Rio Grande Valley.

While at the University of North Texas, he studied with Eugene Osadchy. Javi gained experience playing in a variety of Dallas/Ft. Worth area orchestras, performing for opera, musical theatre, churches, recording sessions, and many weddings.

He has made guest appearances performing with Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, The Trans Siberian Orchestra, Celtic Thunder, and Disturbed. He has performed in several major venues, including The Meyerson Symphony Center, Bass Hall, Texas Stadium, the American Airlines Center, Smirnoff Center and in historic cathedrals and churches throughout the Czech Republic.

Javi's vast experience in many different genres allows him to bring a unique charm and sound to his performances.

He is currently CEO and Advanced Orchestra Director for the After School Music Program at Founders Classical Academy in Prosper, TX. Additionally, Mr. Betancourt is a freelance cellist, chamber musician, private instructor, and clinician.

Teaching

Mr. Betancourt has taught since 2000 and began to manage his own private studio since 2007. Currently he runs the After School Music program at Founder’s Classical Academy in Prosper, TX. Established in 2021, he teaches the Advanced Orchestra and oversees the operations of the Beginner Orchestra and Band. He has taught private lessons in several Public school districts and to adults wanting to learn cello. Additionally, he teaches master classes in cello, chamber music and orchestral playing. He also serves on the string faculty as Cello instructor for The University of Arkansas Summer Music Camp and Dallas ISD Summer Orchestra Camp.
